“America’s Constitution doesn’t have room for emperors.”

Video Transcript

“My name is Barb Rebentisch. I grew up in Iowa in a family of Republicans, and I voted for Trump in 2016 and will not vote for him in 2024.

“I think that January 6th showed us that Donald Trump was entirely for Donald Trump, and basically no interest in the Constitution or in the democracy, or in the peace and integrity of our nation. That showed that he was entirely for Donald Trump. And of course, after all is said and done, then he says, oh, he didn’t do it. Well, the evidence speaks otherwise.

“And I believe if Donald Trump gets a second term, that he might do the same thing that Xi Jinping has done in China, and that Vladimir Putin has done in Russia, and set himself up as an emperor. And America’s Constitution doesn’t have room for emperors. It’s for presidents that come and go so that the Constitution itself can be at the top of the order. The retribution stuff is totally not what the office of the president of the United States is about. It is not a personal office. It is a government office. It is the highest government office, and it is not used for personal purposes, it is used to represent the interests of every American citizen, not carrying out personal vendettas or protecting any single American’s ego.

“I think a lot of the policies that he said that he represented in 2016 were heralding back to the days of Ronald Reagan, but it has become evident that he doesn’t represent anything other than his own self-interest and his own fame or grandiose ideas of himself. It’s all narcissism and that’s not a policy, that’s not a plank for any policy or any platform. I am praying fervently that we can come up with somebody who represents America at its best and somebody that I can be proud to call the president of the United States, and somebody that will make me feel good about being an American.”
