“He has hijacked the Republican party. He is now attempting to hijack our country.”
“ My name is Chris. I’m from Northern California and I’m a former Trump voter. I cannot support Trump again because I’ve already seen who he really is after all the warnings back in 2016, I just kind of accepted that America was looking for this outsider, this business person, this person who was not in government to come in and shake things up, and so I accepted that at that time. But seeing who he was after the 2020 election, not accepting the loss, looking for votes and all these frivolous lawsuits, and then finally January 6th, where it was very clear that he is above and beyond just this outsider. He’s looking for more, and there was something wrong there, something snapped.
“I’m a Reagan Republican. I grew up during the time of Reagan, really respected him in high school and college, and I saw leaders like that come and do so much for our country and restore our pride and prove that things could be done in a bipartisan way, that democracy succeeds. When I look at the character of Donald Trump and all of the convictions, to me that says a lot about a person. Donald Trump, will not accept loss in any way, shape or form. That’s an authoritarians way, and that’s not America. That’s not who we are and it scares me to think that he is this close to winning in November that I had to say something. I had to speak out on a platform somewhere to try to encourage people that what Trump and his people are doing is wrong. And for the Republican party to nominate a convicted felon, I never could have imagined.
“When I look back on January 6th, I recall seeing the images on the news and President Trump not saying a whole lot about it, but he is inciting an insurrection and this man should never be let to be close, anywhere close, to the White House again. It was just a really, really sad day for America and it was a sad time for me. I was sorry to see it happen. This is the first time in my lifetime I can ever remember anything like that, anything close to this happening, and it should never happen again.
“Thinking about a second Trump term, when I see the people that were around Trump in 2016, 17, I was like, ‘Okay, the country’s gonna be okay. The country will be fine.” Right now the team I’m seeing around him are crooks. They are people that are extremists, they have agendas, they want to punish political opponents. There is this project 2025 now that is just now becoming something that America’s realizing is not just a conspiracy theory, it is a very real doctrine that his people have put together. I just cannot go with anything like that. That is an authoritarian regime. It is not a democracy. It’s going to be a populist authoritarian regime. He has hijacked the Republican party. He is now attempting to hijack our country, and I had to speak out because I just cannot see this happen to our country. I would encourage anyone who’s on the fence or considering voting for Donald Trump again to reconsider because this is not the same Donald Trump that we saw in 2016, and it’s scary to think that the whole democratic process could be completely washed away.”
