“The pandemic opened my eyes to just how dangerous Donald Trump was and is for our democracy.”

“My name is Nancy. I’m from Oklahoma. It’s been almost 50 years since I registered to vote for the first time, I registered Republican, and for the next 46 years I voted exclusively Republican. That is until 2020 and the pandemic opened my eyes to just how dangerous Donald Trump was and is for our democracy. So in 2020, for the first time, I voted for a Democrat for president, and I was so relieved when he won and so hopeful that we could fix the damage that Trump had done. That relief was short-lived though because of January 6th, and I realized that the problem has gone much deeper than I originally thought. There was January 6th, then there was Roe v. Wade being overturned and all the crazy chaos going on in the House of Representatives.

“It’s like a cancer on our democracy and it’s infiltrated every level of our democratic institutions. So in 2024, it’s not gonna be sufficient to just vote for the Democrat at the top of the ticket. We’re going to have to vote all of these people out of office from the school board to the Senate. What we need is electoral chemotherapy. We got rid of the Trump tumor in 2020, although it’s threatening to come back, but when cancer metastasizes, you have to take a more drastic treatment to kill the cells that have escaped and infected other parts of the body. So it will take more than one election cycle, I’m sure. So for the foreseeable future, this former Republican is going to be voting Democrat because that’s the only way right now that we can save democracy in the United States of America.”
